Process

First Appointment

At the first appointment, we will spend time getting to know each other.

I'll complete an initial evaluation by asking questions about you and the

situation that you are presenting with.  By the end of the appointment, I

will give you an idea of my clinical impression and also what I think the best

plan is for treatment.  First appointments typically last approximately an hour.

Outpatient Therapy

Therapy sessions are usually 45-60 minutes in length.  Depending on the presented issues, I use a combination of strategies to address concerns.  For mental health concerns, I often draw upon Cognitive-Behavioral, EMDR, and Mindfulness strategies.  For parenting and family issues, I use a Systems approach and often encourage Behavioral Modification strategies.  For stress or life concerns, Solution Focused strategies can be very helpful.  For trauma and/or past abuse, I have found EMDR to be very effective to help with healing.  I feel strongly that often times it is imperative to involve the family in the therapy process.  Each client is different, and as we figure what you are hoping to obtain from the therapeutic process, we will discuss various strategies to meet your goals.

Referrals

Sometimes it is necessary for a client to be seen by a psychiatrist for medication management.  If it seems that this would benefit a client, a referral will be provided.  Occasionally, the issues or concerns that are presented in therapy may require a higher level of care, such as an Intensive Outpatient Program, and a referral would be provided at that time.
